Spring Black Bear Hunting with Proven Hounds

Spring black bear hunts with Peasley Hunts focus heavily on hound-assisted hunting, offering a high-participation, traditional predator experience during peak spring conditions in British Columbia. As bears emerge from winter dens and begin feeding aggressively, snowlines and soft ground create ideal tracking conditions for running bears with trained hounds.

While hound hunting is the primary method, spot-and-stalk opportunities may also be used when visibility, green-up, and bear behavior allow. Guides choose the most effective approach each day based on conditions, hunter ability, and ethical shot opportunities.

How the Hunt Works

  • Each day is planned around current bear movement and track availability.
  • Early mornings are spent scouting roads, trails, and travel corridors
  • When a quality track is identified, hound dogs are released
  • Dogs trail, pressure, and tree the bear
  • Hunters and guides stay with the chase
  • Once treed, guides position hunters for a safe, ethical shot

If conditions favor glassing, spot-and-stalk hunts may be incorporated to capitalize on visible bears feeding in spring terrain.

Traditional Predator Hunting Done Right

Experience classic winter predator hunting in British Columbia with Peasley Hunts. These fully guided hunts are built around experienced hounds, ethical decision-making, and active participation from start to finish. Snow conditions during late fall and winter allow guides to identify quality tracks, make informed calls, and run predators the way it’s been done for generations.

This is not a stand-around hunt. You’ll be involved in every phase — cutting tracks, staying with the dogs during the chase, and executing a safe, ethical harvest once the animal is treed.

How the Hunt Works

Each day starts early, typically between 5:30–6:00 AM, as guides scout roads, trails, and travel corridors for fresh tracks.

  • Hounds are transported by truck until a track is located
  • Once a quality track is confirmed, dogs are released
  • Hounds follow scent, pressure the animal, and tree it
  • Hunters and guides pursue the chase together
  • When treed, guides position hunters for a controlled, ethical shot
  • Multiple strains of hound dogs are used depending on species, track conditions, and terrain.

  • Daily field transportation during the hunt
